Work Environment
The CIIRC CTU teams work in modern premises in the central part of Prague 6 with good visibility to Prague Castle. Two interconnected buildings were created by revitalization and a new extension. The main building (also seat of CTU HQ) has 10 floors. You can find here space for laboratories, experimental facilities such as Testbed for Industry 4.0, science modules, classrooms, offices and other facilities for students, researchers and teachers. The building was awarded for its unique architecture and also for the use of the most modern technologies. The most visible element is the transparent foil forming the facade cladding. Instituted in the Statutes of CIIRC, the Career Rules for CIIRC Academic Staff define qualification grades of the CIIRC academic staff and the conditions & processes of achieving them. The qualification grades are one of the means of achieving excellence. CIIRC’s academic staff qualification grades affect their duties, remuneration, and the rights of participation in the management of CIIRC.
Qualification Grades
Determined by the CIIRC Director, Distinguished Researchers are appointed by the CIIRC Assembly, and Emeritus Researchers are appointed by the CIIRC Scientific Council, both upon the recommendation of the CIIRC Promotion Committee.

Promotion procedures & rules are regulated by the directive CIIRC Promotion & Evaluation Procedures. The application for promotion is made on the CIIRC Academic Staff Promotion Form, which includes instructions for completing the form. Completed & signed form with annexes is submitted by the applicant to promotion@ciirc.cvut.cz
Tenure Track Policy
Goals
CIIRC strives to develop an HR policy and a Tenure Track (TT) system to attract, retain & develop excellent staff. The main purpose of the TT system is to clarify the requirements for a permanent appointment and mutual expectations. It provides mentoring by a senior scientist, with supervision from the immediate superior.
Objectives
CIIRC aims to give TT participants an opportunity to develop their own research line and wants to stimulate them to be independent, but also to contribute to the organization. TT participants prepare for all aspects of their academic career – develop an educational portfolio, supervise PhD students, lead a lab, develop an international network, communicate with the general public, acquire project funding or deal with ethical matters. If at the end of the TT, the TT participant doesn’t meet the requirements set for a permanent appointment, the appointment can be extended by 1 year to give an opportunity to search for a different career path with another employer. Every TT participant is assigned a mentor, who supports the development & acts as an advisor. At the start of the TT appointment, the superior and the TT participant agree on the steps to be met the end criteria – the TT Plan. Accelerated awarding of tenure can take place in the event of exceptional performance such as obtaining a prestigious grant (e.g., ERC).
CTU HR Policies
