Travelling within CZE

You can get almost everywhere in CZ by public transport. It is cheap & safe. Find your connection at idos.cz.

Student discount

Students at Czech universities, under 26 years, are legible for a 75% discount on public transport in the CZ. To prove you’re a Czech student you need a Czech ISIC card. If you don’t have the ISIC card, solutions are specific for the public transport you intend to use. Some transport providers offer other ways to identify, for example, České Dráhy allows you to use their form of student card.

• International Václav Havel Airport Prague is situated in the northwest part of Prague.
• If you fly from countries outside the Schengen area, you’ll arrive at Terminal 1.
• Flights within Schengen countries arrive at Terminal 2.
• Both terminals are close to the Public transport info center.

Electronic prescriptions are issued by doctors and dispensed by any pharmacy. You can be asked to pay a share of the costs. Some medicines that you can get over-the-counter in your country may be sold only on prescription here. Many medicaments are not on prescription but freely available upon settling the costs.

A basic condition for being able to open a bank account is that you must be aged 18 or over – some accounts can be opened earlier (e.g. student accounts from age 15) but only in the presence of a parent/guardian.

Banks differentiate between foreigners from the EU/EEA and those from other countries. EU citizens are usually required to present an identification document valid in the EU (ID card or passport) and as the second piece of identification a document such as their birth certificate, driving license, or Czech residence card. Citizens of non-EU countries must provide a passport, Czech residence permit, and a further piece of identification (such as a birth certificate or driving license). Banks prefer documents with a photo. If you wish to open a special student account, the bank will require a confirmation of studies in the CZ.

Culture

Czech culture has been shaped by its geographical position in the middle of Europe. Influences from its neighbours, political & social changes, wars & times of peace all left their mark on the Czech culture. Prague’s significance as a European cultural centre rose and fell throughout history, but the Czech culture remains distinct to this day.

Sport

Sports play a significant part in the life of many Czechs who are generally loyal supporters of their favorite teams or individuals. The two leading sports in the CZ are football and ice hockey. Other sports with professional leagues & structures include basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, floorball, etc. Sport is a source of strong waves of patriotism.

The events considered the most important by Czech fans are: the Ice Hockey World Championship, the Olympic ice hockey tournament, the European football championship, the football World Cup and qualification matches for such events. In general, any international match involving the Czech ice hockey or football national team draws attention, especially when played against a traditional rival.
